The Frank Lloyd Wright May Basket Art Glass Circle Plate is made using innovative glass fusion techniques enhanced by hand-painted accents. The plate is designed by San Francisco artist Benjamin Chang. The fusing of glass is done at temperatures just exceeding the glass’s melting point which causes the individual components to meld together into one piece. Dimension is added to the piece by placing the glass on top of various shaped molds allowing the glass to flow into or drape over the mold and take shape as it begins to melt. The design for this plate is based on a Wright design for Liberty Magazine in 1926-27. Frank Lloyd Wright was commissioned to design a series of cover designs. However, the editors thought the designs to be too "radical" and they were never used. The May Basket is an abstract geometric motif representing flowers, fruits and streams of ribbons in celebration of Spring. Size: 14.5" L x 14.5" W x 2.5" H. Hand-wash only.
