Sullivan Elevator Grille Earrings

Item# DHERS9272

The Sullivan Elevator Grille Earrings were inspired by a wrought iron elevator door installed in the Chicago Stock Exchange building in 1893, designed by Louis Sullivan. In his 1924 book, A System of Architectural Ornament, Louis Sullivan compared the metamorphosis of a seed into a plant to the development of his basic design motifs into a full-scale architectural structure. This elevator door, in which repeated small shapes merge into larger forms to produce an intricate, energy-filled overall pattern, illustrates this idea. Tarnish resistant silver plated finish on brass with translucent sapphire bead. Hypoallergenic posts for pierced ears. French hooks. Gift boxed with descriptive insert. Length: 2”. Made in the USA.
